On signs from the universe

This a story from Wednesday, written on Thursday.
So it started when a colleague came to work with the cutest new sandals. Cutest. Jealousy overload. She bought the new sandals because she needed one shoe that was the same height as her moon boot - she's torn a muscle in her foot.
I emailed my friend em after that, like most days. I told her I was a bit nervous about my first game back at basketball because of my complete lack of fitness and also because it's been about 8 months since the last game. She told me not to worry, that it'd be fine, just don't get injured.
At lunch I published a post with a terrific quote about wholeness - I rounded it out with a picture of my legs hanging out in a sea of green.
Then I read a different blog post and saw a bridey getting married with a moon boot! She decorated it with sparkles and things and I thought, that's not so bad, I could deal with being injured on my wedding day.
I got home after work, got ready for basketball and arranged with mum to pick me up on her way to watch the game - her best friends daughter is in my team so they sometimes go along and have a jolly time.
Just as I was leaving, my aunty (also the coach) says there are no shorts for me!
We get to the stadium and find dad! And grandpa! Family reunion at its best.
I found some shorts - from the men's team, stepped on to the court and promptly got elbowed in the throat so bad I couldn't swallow. Then I put on a stellar performance and collected 3 fouls... With 4 minutes remaining in the first quarter. That's bad.
One more foul in the second...
Lots of time chatting about weddings with team mates on the bench.
Fourth quarter and I'm in fine form! Really, then I go to take off and guard my player, I feel a snap, my foot shifts, I shuffle forward trying to see how on earth I broke my shoe and I collapse.

Next time the universe is screaming at me about injuries and not playing because I'm too unfit, I'll  listen.

In the mean time, this sucks.
